    Hi Jon,
As someone who is an avid fan of early photography, I have been fascinated by your suitcase project. My husband had an uncle, whom he never heard of before I found him while researching his family’s genealogy. Born in 1892, he was put in the Iowa Institution for Feeble Minded Children as a very young child because he had Down’s Syndrome. He died at the asylum at 17 from TB, which I assume many patients contracted from such close quarters. The only picture ever taken of him was taken by the hospital when he was ten. His name is actually on a small stone marking his grave. It just saddens me to think of all these people who were put away and forgotten. You are doing a wonderful service by putting insight into the lives of these forgotten individuals.
