Butterfly
Because of the color, I thought this was a Monarch, but when he (or she) alit I realized it wasn’t. Lovely weather down here on the island. I’m off for a walk on the beach.

hey Jon,
have you ever heard of the viceroy butterfly? It has evolved to look almost exactly like a monarch. Monarch larvae feed exclusively on milkweed, making them poisonous. Common butterfly predators avoid them for this reason. While not poisonous, The viceroys are avoided as well due to their near perfect resemblance to the monarch.
Also, isn’t it amazing that butterflies can navigate thousands of miles to arrive at their migratory destinations!! Watching them fly in the back yard, i would never guess its possible…Wow
hope you are enjoying Kiawah.
