Bishop’s Park Gents
Only some of you might be interested in this, but I have always enjoyed older public restrooms, especially here in Britain. This is the gents in the middle of Bishop’s Park. Beautiful tile, the urinals are all porcelain, no graffiti and clean. I am always a bit nervous about taking pictures in public facilities, but fortunately no one walked in on me. It would be a bit difficult to explain what I was doing.

Great photo! It seems very sterile and cold in there.
It was actually seasonably warm and quite comfortable.
You pick interesting subjects to photograph. Now, go in the ladies room and photograph that. I would love to see it!
A hard hat and a clip board will get you into almost any where!
As a woman I have always had a fascination about what men’s loos look like on the inside. Of course I have had a peek at one or two in my time but never into an “antique” like this one. Fabulous and funny post!

The buds are from the “Teacup magnolia,” maybe botanically magnolia macrophylla but it’s hard to know exactly. We’ve got lots of these in the northeastern US. This flowering tree is not to be confused with the equally lovely magnolia stellata or “Star magnolia,” which also grows well in New England.
And I love the photos of the basset for obvious reasons.

your work is fascinating to me. everything you seem to be attracted to is of interest to me, i am so glad i stumbled upon your blog, the asylum work has my head spinning with envy.
You could simply tell them you wanted to show the people back home what a clean public restroom looks like. I mean, this appears to be pretty near immaculate.
But then again, maybe your hometown restrooms are as clean.
Ever heard the story that a new top manager for Greyhound Canada had decided to literally clean up the depot’s restrooms, so he sent a message to all the local managers, telling them he was coming down for a visit and that they would do lunch. In the men’s restroom. Apparently, it worked. Except for Downtown Vancouver, where I can witness, they were ***Filthy***, the depot got demolished. I don’t know if it was because the loo’s were beyond redemption but…

Stephen, Great point and thanks for the comment. It is the perfect answer. Amazingly enough, that particular bog was being used regularly by people who are working on a bunch of projects in the park. There was some evidence of muddy boot prints on the floor, but that was it. There is an even nicer public toilet in a park near the “Naked Ladies of Twickenham” statues. I shot a pano of it years ago and have a big print on my wall. Best, Jon
