Mary Janes
Cris and I have had a long running joke about these candies. I put these into her Christmas stocking this year and yesterday she placed them on my nightstand before leaving for a couple of weeks in Dhaka. They will probably be there when she gets back. Neither of us seem to like them that much. Chocolate on the other hand, wouldn’t last nearly that long.
Reblogged this on CANDY CRASH TEST.
What are they, Jon, licorice? I’ve never heard of them before. Happy New Year!
Katherine, they are a very old american confection. What as a kid we called “penny candy”. Kind of a nougat, chewy, cavity pulling out treat. Maybe some peanuts too. I’ll try to post a link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Jane_(candy) Best and happy new year to you as well.
Sound like my kinda treat. Thanks for the link!
I think they are wonderful. Although, I agree with you on the short lifespan of chocolate.
They were my mom’s favorite candy growing up in New Orleans in the 20s and 30s. She made sure we had them in the house around Halloween time. I miss her, and seeing these candies sure do make it hard not to tear up!
