Penguin Books
I’ve been thinking of my late parents quite a bit recently. The photograph is of my father’s family. They moved from Cornwall in the UK to Central City, Colorado where I believe this shot was taken. Dad turned me on to the Scottish writer John Buchan, and I have a large collection of his books; mostly hardbacks, but a few in these lovely old Penguin editions. These beautiful art deco bookends are marked “Genuine Rocky Mountain Alabaster” and come from Kohlberg’s / Denver, which I assume is or was some sort of a shop.
Pearl had some pretty heavy duty surgery on Tuesday. She had a large mast cell tumor on her side and it really needed to come off. Our wonderful vet Deb Lichtenberg thought it was a good thing to do, and we are glad we went through with it. The recovery has been going well so far. Off to get the temporary drain removed this afternoon and then another ten days before the stitches come out. I took this shot a few days before the operation. We never let her up on the furniture until about a year ago, but hey, she’s 12 and we want her happy.
Between my son in law and NY husband and I we have 3 dogs over 11.. they lay wherever they want ..nothing like an old dog to teach us about aging with dignity and love…I love our “old boys”
I hope that Pearl feels better soon. I’m glad to see that you’re interested in genealogy as well. It’s an interesting hobby. Take care! -Lin
Jon, I so enjoy your postings. I am following you a lot and am trying to get to San Francisco to see your exhibit. I wanted to tell you that at my house we say “it’s all about the dog” and it is. Whatever she wants she should have; break all the rules!
Pearl at age twelve will probably have a lot more energy when the stitches come out but goodness at her age she really is a senior dog. Our pets really do become our kids and here’s hoping you both do wonderfully
Gracious! Hank sends his absolute best to The Pearl and hopes she’s feeling much, much better! Hank’s 13 and a half (isn’t it funny how as we get older the “halves” and “three-quarters” start slipping back in to the count?) and can surely relate. Captain Stanley just had major dental surgery (he’s ten and a half) for his previously neglected teeth, and he can relate as well. Both fellows are now reclining on the green velvet sofa and from there send Pearl their very, very best thoughts.
