New Year’s Day 2018

Wishing you all a happy and productive 2018.  Thanks for following this silly little blog.

This is the annual Polar Bear Plunge on the island.  It takes a special kind of person to run into the Atlantic when the outside temperature is 30 degrees.

    Even more so when it’s 17 below, as here in VT, and the ice has to have a hole chopped into it before one can plunge.

    We do something similar here into Lake St. Clair (near Detroit) raise money for the Downtown Mission (homeless shelter and food bank).

      Tania, My mom was born in 1915 in a house on Lake St. Clair (the house is gone, but I know the address). She always claimed it is one of the Great Lakes! Her family lived in the Detroit area until my grandmother moved to Pennsylvania when she was too old to live on her own. I spent a lot of time in the area as a kid. Thanks for the comment. Jon
