Nepal 2018
We tried something different this year on our trip to Kathmandu. Instead of going through Dubai we opted to fly Qatar Airways through Doha. It was a nice long flight and the Doha airport is wild. Here is the giant teddy bear with a lamp on its head. Quite bizarre.
The flight to Kathmandu from Doha was 4 1/2 hours and I was getting a bit tired and bored.
It is always great to get off the plane and be in Nepal. You can deplane from the front and back just like in Long Beach!
They have renovated our usual room at the Hotel Tibet. Brilliant sunset last night from our window. / We have today to goof around before Cris starts her World Education work tomorrow. Cheers and thanks for following.
Dubai / Nepal
Cris and I are on our way to Nepal. She has some work on an early grade reading project funded by UNICEF and I am tagging along.
There was a great selection of music on the plane which helped while away the 12 hour flight. I was shocked to see Trout Mask Replica as one of the “Essential Albums”. I first heard it in college when my friend Greg Trout played it for me. He told me that his grandmother bought it for him only because of the name. I never thought I’d be listening to “Moonlight on Vermont” at 35,000 feet. It is an amazing record. I also watched the live broadcast of the opening match of the 2016 Euros. France 2 Romania 1. What a world.
Four hour layover in Dubai and then off to Kathmandu. I hope to post quite a lot providing we have internet access.
Coal Harbour Vancouver
I walked down to the harbour yesterday afternoon. There was a break in the rain so it was a nice time to watch the Harbour Air planes take off and land. I found myself thinking that if one were a pilot, this would be the best job in the world. And I love the floating Chevron station.
Although this plane was Westcoast Air. Back home tomorrow. This visit was much too short.
Back to Vancouver
The first leg of the flight was Hartford/Toronto on this tiny little prop plane. It was kind of cool actually. Air Canada service was great.
The windows frosted up, but when we started descending just past Buffalo, there was an amazing view of Niagara Falls.
I took this photo just after first light. It will rain much of the day, but Vancouver is such an amazing city. Cris has meetings, but there will be lots of time to walk.
Flying
Let’s see if this works. I took this a few hours ago as I was boarding my flight from Long Beach (coolest airport in the country) to Boston.
It took a while to upload this second photo, but I’ll hit publish in a minute. It is now 11.22 West Coast Time.
What a world.
Long Beach (LGB)
Flew to California last night. I love the Long Beach airport. You can disembark through the front or the back of the plane and walk to the terminal on the tarmac. Very old school.
