Weird Little Thing

I can’t really explain why odd little occurrences amuse me so much.  And I won’t even begin to attempt to go into too much detail here.  I was shaving in the shower as I usually do and took the top off a new can of gel.  I placed it on the grab bar but it fell through the gap, slid down the wall and stopped.  It stayed there during the rest of my shower but when I checked an hour later it had dropped off.  The scientific explanation that comes to mind is “surface tension”, but I really have no idea.

That Thing Again (with cheese)

I was cutting up some Gruyere cheese tonight for onion soup.  Whenever I take off the rind, I can’t bear to throw away any of the good bits that are close to it, so I use the knife to cut as near to the edge as I can. One of the small pieces fell onto the cutting board and stayed like this.   I have written before about things landing on the narrow end and remaining upright.  This just seems so lame to post about, but I still find it interesting and cheering.  Read about it here, here, and here.  (Or not; sometimes I can’t imagine anyone else being interested in the stuff that I find amusing.)  Anyway, hope you all have a great week.  And thanks for all the Kickstarter support.  I am really blown away by it.

Standing Quarter

Posted in Money, Nature by joncrispin on 28/12/2012

Well, it happened again today (click on the “it”).  When I posted a similar occurrence last year, my friend Alex reminded me of a “Twilight Zone” episode where a guy threw a quarter into a newspaper vendor’s box and the coin stood on its edge.  All the rest of the day he had the power to read minds.  As was typical of that program, it didn’t turn out so well.  I was in the process of putting a quarter into a parking meter this afternoon and it dropped into the snow and landed this way.  I wasn’t able to read minds, but it did make me happy.
